Lake City woman, 29, dies in 2-vehicle collision on I-10 in Columbia County

A 29-year-old Lake City woman was killed and a 36-year-old Jacksonville man sustained serious injuries in a two-vehicle collision on Interstate 10 in Columbia County on Sunday morning.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, the Lake City woman was driving a sedan west on I-10 near mile marker 304 just west of the 303 exit at 4 a.m. when she stopped on the inside westbound lane. An SUV driven by the Jacksonville man was unable to react in time and struck the rear of the sedan.

Emergency responders pronounced the Lake City woman dead on scene.

The Jacksonville man was transported to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Editor’s note: This story was updated with information from the FHP that showed that the Jacksonville man collided with the rear of the Lake City woman’s vehicle after she unexpectedly stopped in the inside westbound lane.
