The Lake City Police Department (LCPD) will be conducting a multi-agency DUI checkpoint on Saturday, May 28, intended to reduce the impact of impaired drivers and impairment-related crashes during the Memorial Day Weekend.
According to an LCPD release, the checkpoint will be conducted between the hours of 7 p.m. and 2 a.m. and will target drivers who choose to drive after consuming drugs or alcohol.
This checkpoint is part of LCPD’s Strategic Traffic Enforcement Program, funded by the Florida Department of Transportation.
This checkpoint may operate at one of the following locations, based on activity levels, weather conditions, and other factors:
- SW Bascom Norris Drive at SW Marvin Burnett Road
- NE Washington Street at E Hilton Avenue
- 1400 block of US Highway 90 West
- South Marion Ave at SW St. Margarets Street
- South Main Boulevard at State Road 47
- State Road 247 north of Bascom Norris Drive
LCPD is reminding drivers that they are required by law to have a current driver’s license, current vehicle registration, and current insurance while operating a motor vehicle in the State of Florida. These items must be submitted upon demand of a law enforcement officer. This means you must be prepared to physically hand these items to officers at the checkpoint.
LCPD’s goal of this checkpoint is to identify and apprehend impaired drivers before they can kill or injure others.
