Levy County urges evacuations as Cow Creek Fire expands past 700 acres

Key Points

A more than 700-acre fire in Levy County continues to grow and move southwest, crossing Old Lebanon Road about two miles south of County Road 326.  

Called the Cow Creek Fire, the blaze broke out on Tuesday and is several miles south of Bronson in the Goethe State Forest. First responders are going door-to-door urging evacuations.  

A comfort center for evacuation support was opened at the Levy County Government Center (310 School Street, Bronson). Residents should bring food and bedding, according to the release.

Two days ago, Levy County experienced smoke from fires in Alachua County, but had no active wildfires within its jurisdiction.
