A single-vehicle crash in Levy County left one person dead and another seriously injured Thursday.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) report, the accident occured just before noon on Buck Island Road, which is a dirt road within a hunting camp area.
The driver of a van failed to negotiate a curve to the right, slid off the road and into a ditch along a tree line on the south shoulder. The vehicle overturned and came to rest on its left side within the trees.
The driver sustained fatal injuries and was prounced dead at the scene by first responders with Levy County Fire Rescue. A helicopter transported the passenger, a 66-year-old male from Cedar Key, to UF Health Shands Hospital, where he is listed in serious condition.
FHP said it is still trying to positively identify the driver of the vehicle.
Neither the driver or the passenger were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.
