The Alachua County Library District Governing Board has announced a meeting for 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 25 at its downtown headquarters.
Notice for the previously unannounced meeting went out Thursday morning, which complies with the state law requiring at least a seven-day notice for any public meeting.
The district’s announcement came a day after Mainstreet reported on library staff complaints about workplace environment. An unofficial committee convened on Monday to discuss potential issues in library workplace culture after the governing board delayed an official committee meeting until March.
One of the unofficial committee’s organizers, Debbie Lewis, told Mainstreet before Monday’s meeting that some concerned citizens had planned to attend the board’s last meeting, scheduled for Jan. 11, but it was canceled on Jan. 8.
The library governing board includes Gainesville Commissioner Cynthia Chestnut, Alachua County Commissioner Marihelen Wheeler, Alachua County Commissioner Mary Alford, Alachua County Commissioner Ken Cornell, School Board Member Leanetta McNealy and Gainesville Commissioner Reina Saco. The members are selected by their respective commissions and boards.
The meeting’s agenda is not currently available online, but a copy obtained by Mainstreet has the ad hoc committee listed as unfinished business to be addressed. According to the agenda, Chestnut, the board chair, requested the item be placed on the agenda for additional discussion.
