LifeSouth has issued a release requesting blood donations due to a summer shortage.
Hospitals in the area rely on the blood donated through LifeSouth, but there has been a drop in donations due to summer travel, school breaks, and weather.
LifeSouth announced that now through August 31, it will be offering a $20 e-gift card to all donors. Donors who also give platelets or double red blood cells will receive an extra $20 e-gift card. All donors also receive a mini-physical that includes blood pressure, temperature, iron levels, and a cholesterol screening.
Donors must be at least 17 or 16 with parental permission, must weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, and be in good health. All donors need to bring a photo ID.
LifeSouth bloodmobiles will be out at certain locations in the next few days. For additional information about donation or to find a blood drive near you, call LifeSouth toll-free at 888-795-2707 or visit www.lifesouth.org. Appointments can also be made online.
