The Acrosstown Repertory Theatre (ART) held a town hall meeting Thursday evening to discuss the next steps for the theatre.

ART began in 1980 at the Star Garage. In 1985, the theatre moved to a new building at the Baird Complex.

After nearly 30 years at the Baird Complex, the theatre company must leave.

The meeting entailed discussing possible future venues, fundraising, and the most pressing topic — finding new board members.

ART President Carolyne Salt pleaded with attendees to join the board or committees within the theatre.

Over 15 people raised their hands when asked about interest in running for a board member seat. At the break, numerous individuals lined up to add their names to the sign-up sheet.

Salt will meet with the City of Gainesville to discuss future possibilities so, for now, the theatre program must begin packing up its costumes, stage sets, and equipment and transfer the items into storage.
