Breaking News Overnight: Fatal two-vehicle crash in Marion County kills Mt. Dora man

The Florida Highway Patrol responded to a fatal crash at approximately 2:15 am this morning in Marion County.

According to the FHP report, A sport utility vehicle driven by a 34-year-old woman from Umatilla, was traveling westbound on CR-42, negotiating a right curve. A pickup truck, driven by a 49-year-old man from Mt. Dora, was traveling eastbound in the westbound lane of CR-42, negotiating a left curve.

For an unknown reason, the front of the SUV collided with the left side of the pickup truck. Both vehicles rotated counterclockwise, with the pickup coming to rest across the westbound lane of CR-42, facing north. The SUV came to rest partially on the north grass shoulder and partially in the westbound lane of CR-42, facing southwest.

The driver of pickup truck was pronounced deceased on the scene at 02:39 AM by Marion County Fire Rescue Lieutenant Andrew Smith. The driver of the SUV sustained serious injuries according to the report.

The roadway was blocked for several hours as a result of the crash.

The FHP did not release the name of either driver.
