Breaking News: Two-car crash in Columbia County kills 13-year-old girl; injures three

The Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-car crash today at approximately 11:20 AM on Interstate 10 in Columbia County.

Both vehicles were traveling west on SR 8 (Interstate 10), in the right lane. For reasons yet to be determined, a tractor/trailer driven by a 50-year old resident of Decatur, GA, struck a sedan, driven by a 36-year-old woman from Mobile, AL and two passengers (13 and 15 yearly girls from Mobile) in the rear with its front.

After being struck by the tractor/trailer, the sedan went across the center grass median facing south on the south grass shoulder. The 13-year old passenger was pronounced deceased on the scene by Columbia County Fire Rescue. The tractor/trailer driver and the 15-year-old passenger were airlifted to Shand’s in Gainesville. The sedan driver was transported to Lake Shore in Lake City.

The crash had traffic backed up on both east & westbound lanes of Interstate 10 at the 304 mile marker in Columbia County for hours.

The FHP did not release the names of the victims of the crash.
