The Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two car crash today at approximately 11:45 AM near the intersection of SW Bascom Norris Drive and SW Mary Ethel Lane in Lake City.
Vehicle 1, driven by a 49-year-old Wellborn, FL man, was traveling west on SW Mary Ethel Lane approaching SW Bascom Norris Drive. Vehicle 2, driven by a 76-year-old Lake City man, was traveling south on SW Bascom Norris Drive approaching SW Mary Ethel Lane.
As vehicle 1 proceeded through the intersection, the driver violated the right of way of vehicle 2, and the front of vehicle 2 struck the right side of vehicle 1.
After impact, vehicle two came to a final rest in the roadway facing in a southwesterly direction. Vehicle 1 came to a controlled stop on the north shoulder of SW Mary Ethel Lane facing west.
According to the FHP report, the driver of vehicle 1 sustained no injuries, while the driver of vehicle 2 died as a result of the injuries sustained in the crash.
The FHP did not release the name of the drivers in the incident.
It was the second fatal crash in Columbia County this week. On July 6th, a two-car crash at the intersection of US Highway 441 and NE Christie Street north of Lake City in Columbia County killed one and injured two Lake City residents.
