A Columbia County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) SWAT team deputy assisting with a search warrant was injured on Wednesday and taken to a trauma center with serious injuries.

According to a CCSO release, the deputy was assisting the Lake City Police Department (LCPD) with a search warrant near the intersection of NW Long Street and NW Fowler Avenue around 9 a.m. when the deputy was injured during the development of a less lethal concussion device. He is being treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

“We are praying for our deputy to make a full recovery and appreciate the cooperation of everyone who assisted in rendering immediate medical attention to him,” CCSO Sheriff Mark Hunter said in the release. “This serves as a reminder of the dangers law enforcement face in an effort to keep our community safe. I would ask for our community to keep this deputy in your thoughts and prayers during his recovery.”

According to the release, this remains a fluid situation and further details will be released at a later time.
