Christmas crash kills 23-year-old on I-75

A Tennessee man died Christmas morning in a two-vehicle crash in Columbia County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the Tennessee man, 23, was driving a silver sedan northbound on I-75 when the accident occurred at 4:45 a.m. About a mile south of the Highway 90 exit at Lake City, the man’s car collided with the back of a white Ford van, which was pulling a trailer in the outside right lane.

After striking the trailer, the sedan traveled off the roadway and caught fire, resulting in the fatality.

The driver of the van, a 71-year-old California man, suffered minor injuries. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.

According to FHP, the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
