Car crash kills 1, injures 1 in Gilchrist County

One person died and another is in serious condition after a car left NE 100 Street Road and struck a ditch in Gilchrist County on Sunday night. 

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) report, a 62-year-old Trenton woman was driving a sedan westbound on NE 100 Street Road near NE 22 Court around 7:32 p.m. when she approached a left curve and exited the roadway. The vehicle traveled onto the north shoulder and struck a ditch. 

Gilchrist County Fire Rescue medics declared the woman dead at the scene and transported the passenger — a 64-year-old Trenton man — to the hospital in serious condition.

The FHP report stated the driver was not wearing a seatbelt and it was not known if the passenger was restrained.
