A Sunday afternoon brush fire drew responses from the High Springs, Newberry and Alachua County fire departments, and crews saved five structures, five boats and four vehicles from damage, according to a press release.
The High Springs Fire Department reported that crews contained the brush fire to less than four acres within half an hour of the call. The fire was reported at 24715 NW 94th Avenue off U.S. 41.
“Fast, inter-departmental communication and coordination saved this fire from spreading to nearby structures and vehicles,” said Alachua County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Drew Dabney in a release.
Because of the number of crews involved, fire stations across the area shifted to keep coverage of the western side of Alachua County. La Crosse personnel and off duty High Springs firefighters covered the city of High Springs while Archer crews moved up to cover Newberry.
Alachua County fire crews moved west from the Fort Clark Boulevard station to Jonesville.
The release said that the cause of the fire is believed to be an escaped burn pile from Saturday night.
