
Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reported that a 60-year-old Lake City man was killed Wednesday morning while riding an electric wheelchair in the eastbound lane on U.S. 90.
According to an FHP release, an 83-year-old Lake City man was driving an SUV eastbound on U.S. 90 and arriving at the intersection with County Road 245 when the vehicle struck the electric wheelchair which was in the travel lane and in the direct path of the vehicle. The crash happened around 9:40 a.m.
The release said the SUV came to a stop in the travel lane while the 60-year-old man and wheelchair were propelled southeast and onto the paved and grass shoulder of the road.
FHP said the man was pronounced dead on the scene. Neither the SUV driver nor his passenger were injured.
