The Gainesville Police Department (GPD) is investigating a crash between a semi-truck and a scooter that sent a 63-year-old man to the hospital in a trauma alert.

The incident occurred Wednesday afternoon near the intersection of SW 2nd Avenue and SW 9th Street. GPD Spokesperson Art Forgey said the scooter ran into the back of the semi-truck, resulting in the critical injuries to the driver.

He said the traffic unit would conduct an investigation to get all the details around the incident.

It wasn’t a semi truck but rather a Cisco food delivery truck that had stopped in front of Opus Coffee, presumably to make a delivery there. Hazard lights were blinking on the truck, so I guess the man on the scooter was looking at his phone or something. I didn’t see the accident but did see them load scooter guy in an ambulance.
