Hawthorne man dies in rural crash

A Hawthorne man died Friday in a single-vehicle crash in east Alachua County.

According to Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the accident occurred at 1 p.m. Friday in the 3900 block of Holden Park Road, which is southeast of Hawthorne.

FHP reported that a 39-year-old man was driving south in a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado when the vehicle went onto the east shoulder. The driver lost control and the truck overturned, ejecting the man.

He was pronounced deceased at UF Health Shands in Gainesville.

FHP is still investigating the cause of the crash.
