Man fleeing police dies in collision with semi

A man eluding an attempted traffic stop died after he collided with a tractor-trailer on US Highway 441 in High Springs on Wednesday morning.  
 
According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) report, a High Springs Police officer observed a man driving a Mazda 6 at a high rate of speed northbound on US Highway 441 around 9:10 a.m. The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the Mazda driver failed to stop. 
 
The Mazda then collided with a tractor-trailer around 100 feet north of NW 210 Lane and the Mazda driver was ejected from the vehicle onto the east grass shoulder.  
 
Emergency responders pronounced the Mazda driver deceased on the scene.  
 
The 51-year-old male from St. Petersburg driving the tractor-trailer was not injured.
