A two-vehicle accident killed one person and seriously injured two others on Thursday evening in Orange Heights.

According to an Alachua County Fire Rescue (ACFR) press release, crews from ACFR, the Melrose Fire Department, Alachua County Sheriff’s Office and Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) responded to the collision on US Highway 301 at 7:30 p.m.

Two vehicles were damaged and emergency responders transported three patients to a local hospital with serious injuries. One person was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Traffic was backed up for several hours as both northbound lanes were blocked.

FHP is investigating the cause of the crash.
