Updating Breaking News: Bicyclist dies in collision with pickup truck in Levy County

The Florida Highway Patrol responded to a fatal crash between a pickup truck and bicycle this morning at approximately 7:17 am on NE 60th Street west of CR-241 in Levy County.

 The pickup truck, driven by a 27-year-old man from Williston, was traveling east on NE 60th Street. The bicyclist, a 76-year-old man from Williston, was also traveling east on NE 60th Street in front of the vehicle. For an unknown reason, the pickup collided into the rear of bicycle in the eastbound travel lane on NE 60th Street.

The collision caused the rider to be thrown from his bicycle, landing in the eastbound travel lane on NE 60th Street. The driver of the pickup continued traveling eastbound along NE 60th Street and came to a stop on the south shoulder of NE 60th Street facing in a northeasterly direction.

The bicyclist died from injuries sustained in the collision. The driver of the pickup was uninjured, according to the FHP report.

The FHP did not release the names of either individual associated with the crash.
