The Florida Highway Patrol responded to a fatal crash last night at approximately 10:30 pm on SR-20 (SE Hawthorne Road) in Alachua County.
The driver, a 28-year-old Gainesville resident, was traveling eastbound on SR-20, when it left the road for an unknown reason and went onto the south grass shoulder and collided with the tree line where it came to rest.
As a result of this crash, the rear passenger, a 31-year-old female resident of Gainesville, sustained fatal injuries and was later pronounced deceased on the scene. The two other occupants were transported to UF Shands Health. The driver sustained serious injuries, according to the FHP Incident Report.
The FHP did not release the names of the victims of the crash.
