Updating Breaking News: Fatal two-vehicle crash in Alachua County kills one, injures three

The Florida Highway Patrol responded to a fatal crash this afternoon at approximately 12:30 PM near the intersection of State Road 20 and County Road 234 between Gainesville and Hawthorne in Alachua County.

According to the FHP report, a pickup truck driven by a 46-year-old Ocklawaha man, was traveling north on County Road 234, approaching a stop sign in the median break of State Road 20 and County Road 234.

The second vehicle, a sedan driven by a 22-year-old Dunnellon man, was traveling west on State Road 20. The pickup traveled through the intersection, and collided with the left side of the sedan, then came to rest facing south on County Road 234.

The sedan came to rest facing northeast on the north shoulder of State Road 20 in the ditch. The driver of the sedan was pronounced deceased at UF Health Shands in Gainesville.

A passenger in the sedan, a 21-year-old man from Beverly Hills, FL, sustained critical injuries in the crash, according to the FHP report. A passenger in the pickup truck, a 25-year-old man from Ocklawaha, sustained minor injuries in the crash as well.

The westbound lanes of State Road 20 were closed for several hours due to the investigation. This crash is still currently under investigation.

The FHP did not release the names of the drivers.
