Updating Breaking News: Pedestrian on I-75 hit and killed by SUV identified as Gainesville man

The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) released the name of the person that was hit and killed by an SUV on Saturday morning on Interstate 75.

 According to the report, a male pedestrian was walking in an unknown direction within the southbound inside lane on Interstate 75 near the 384 mile marker and SR 24 at approximately 8:30 am on Saturday, April 18th.

The driver of a 2011 BMW SUV was traveling southbound in the inside lane. The driver of the SUV was unable to see the pedestrian on the unlighted roadway in time to avoid a collision causing the vehicle to strike the pedestrian.

The driver of a 2019 Ford Super Duty pickup truck which was traveling behind the SUV, struck debris from the SUV.

The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene, and was later identified by the FHP as Gregory Steven Surprenant, 51 of Gainesville.
