Updating Breaking News: Two-vehicle crash on Interstate 75 in Columbia County injures one

The Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two vehicle crash this morning at approximately 10:45 am in on Interstate 75 (SR 93) in Columbia County.

Both vehicles were traveling south on in the right lane. The first vehicle, a Penske rental truck driven by a 51-year-old man from Detroit, was transporting household goods and was traveling behind the second vehicle, a tractor/trailer driven by a 42-year-old man from Indian Lake Estates, FL.

When the driver of the first vehicle fell asleep, the front of his vehicle crashed into the rear of tractor/trailer.

After the initial collision, the driver of the first vehicle attempted to regain control, but was unable to do so before the vehicle overturned onto its right side, and came to rest facing east on its right side across the southbound lanes.

The second vehicle was driven to a controlled stop.

Neither driver was injured in the collision, but a passenger in the first vehicle, a 54-year-old man from Omaha, NE, was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries, according to the FHP’s report.

This is all the information available at this time. The FHP did not release the names of the driver or passenger.
