The Lochloosa West Fire in Southeast Alachua County has grown to 228 acres and is reportedly 30% contained as of midday on Tuesday.
According to a Florida Forest Service release, crews are focusing on mop-up and improving containment lines on the fire that erupted on Monday.
County Road 325 was reopened at 9 p.m. on Monday and the Florida Department of Transportation has put road signs up along CR325 for recurrence of smoke impacts. The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) deputies are monitoring the roads for visibility concerns.
According to the release, winds from the southeast will potentially send smoke into the west and northwest.
Agencies that responded to the wildfire include the Florida Forest Service-Waccasassa Forestry Center, Alachua County Fire Rescue, ASCO, Cross Creek Fire Department and the St. Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD).
The Forest Service has six engines and 14 bulldozers and SJRWMD has three helicopters, one air attack aircraft, two engines and one bulldozer working on the wildfire.
