On Sunday, the Micanopy Fire Department officially transitioned to the Alachua County Fire Rescue (ACFR) at the request of Micanopy officials.
In May, the city of Micanopy and Alachua County entered an Interlocal Agreement that transitioned the fire department services to the ACFR, according to an Alachua County press release. The ACFR will now serve Micanopy residents and property in a 25-square-mile area.
ACFR Station 64 will be staffed with a three-person crew operating an advanced life support engine with 24-hour, seven day per week coverage. It marks ACFR’s 16th station.
“This is a major step forward in providing critical emergency services to residents of the Town of Micanopy and the surrounding unincorporated area,” said ACFR Chief Harold Theus in the press release. “I am grateful for the cooperation of all of the elected officials and for their support and commitment to public safety.”
