- A 33-year-old Middleburg man died in a four-vehicle collision on Highway 441 in Alachua on Saturday night.
- An 18-year-old Lake City woman lost control of her sedan causing the crash and was seriously injured and hospitalized.
A 33-year-old Middleburg man was killed and an 18-year-old Lake City woman was seriously injured in a collision that involved four vehicles on Highway 441 in Alachua on Saturday night.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, the Lake City woman was driving a sedan southbound on US 441 at 8:40 p.m. just south of County Road 237 while three vehicles were going northbound on 441, including the Middleburg man in a pickup truck, a 23-year-old Brooker man driving a sedan and an 18-year-old High Springs woman driving a sedan.
For unknown reasons, the Lake City woman lost control of her sedan, causing it to cross the center median and enter the northbound lane in front of of the pickup truck driven by the Middleburg man. The Lake City woman’s vehicle overturned and came to rest on its roof in the northbound right lane and the pickup truck traveled onto the northbound shoulder.
Debris from the collision struck the other two sedans, but no one was injured in either vehicle, including an 18-year-old Gainesville man riding in the sedan with the High Springs woman.
Emergency responders transported the Lake City woman to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville with serious injuries and pronounced the Middleburg man dead on scene.
