A motorcyclist died in a collision with a car at the NW 39th Avenue and NW 24th Boulevard intersection on Wednesday.
According to the Gainesville Police Department (GPD), the incident occurred around 12:40 p.m. and the scene was shut down to traffic for two hours.
“Initial reports indicate the motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed and failed to stop at the stoplight when he collided with the passenger door of a vehicle,” GPD spokesperson Graham Glover wrote in an email.
Emergency responders reported the motorcyclist died at the scene. The car driver was transported to a local hospital and later released with non-life-threatening injuries.
