According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), a vehicle traveling east around 12 a.m. on State Road 24 in the right lane struck the Starke bicyclist riding a motorized Schwinn bicycle on the eastbound shoulder about 1.1 miles west of NE 127th Street.

The bicyclist was ejected from the cycle into the eastbound ditch and the vehicle fled in an unknown direction. Emergency responders pronounced the cyclist dead at the scene.

FHP investigators identified the vehicle as either a 1998-2004 era Ford pickup or a 2000-04 Ford Excursion SUV. FHP also reported the Ford should have significant damage to the passenger side headlight assembly.

FHP asks anyone with information about the Ford vehicle or driver involved in the collision to contact FHP at 800-387-1290 or the local Crime Stoppers organization.
