New cases of COVID-19 in Florida remain under 5,000; positivity rates dropping

The Florida Department of Health reported 4,684 new cases to the Florida COVID-19 Dashboard, bringing the total positive test count to 593,286 cases as of the August 20th report. 

The FDOH also reported 12,730 new tests from Thursday. The positivity rate was 6.83% of the total of tests that had not tested before, according to the report. Since July 16th, the positivity rate has stayed below 15%.

10,304 people have died from the virus in Florida, an increase of 119.

When the FDOH reports a death in the daily update, the number encompasses several days, with actual days of death occurring weeks prior in some cases.

347 new hospitalizations were reported Tuesday, bringing the total to 35,650 people in Florida that have been hospitalized at some point during the coronavirus pandemic.

Across Florida, 4,942 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 as their primary diagnosis as of 11 am.
