Local leaders voted unanimously to select the TaskForce Fore Ending Homelessness as the new lead agency for the North Central Florida Continuum of Care, a role that allows homeless service providers to access state and federal funding.

The TaskForce Fore Ending Homelessness (TaskForce) announced the decision on Wednesday and said in a press release that a transition plan is already underway. Currently, United Way of North Central Florida serves as the lead agency for the Continuum of Care (CoC) but decided to step away from the role at the end of last year.

United Way issued a request for proposals to find a new lead agency, but no one responded. With less than three months before the end of the contract, CoC members worried that their funding could be at risk.

The vote, held Monday by CoC members, allows the new lead agency to begin and secures access to federal and state funding—totaling more than a million annually.

“Being selected as the Continuum of Care Lead Agency is not just an honor; it is a pivotal responsibility that we accept with determination and humility,” said Mikal Cartier, CEO of the TaskForce.

The TaskForce is based in Ft. Lauderdale and started in 2006. As it takes over the lead agency, a press release said the nonprofit will hire a new CoC director and supporting staff.

The TaskForce identified four keys as it begins to manage the CoC: enhancing coordination, data-driven strategies, community engagement and sustainable solutions. The nonprofit also plans to host a series of local forums and stakeholder meetings to strengthen community ties.

“We are excited to partner with TaskForce and look forward to building a strong collaboration in service to our community,” said Amber Miller, CEO and president of United Way.

“…the spelling of “FORE” in our name carries a profound meaning that reflects our unwavering commitment to leading the charge in the battle against homelessness.”

I think I’ll withhold comments on this one.
OK, not completely – let me just say – smh
