Ocala man dies in head-on tree collision off I-75

An Ocala man died Sunday morning when he crashed his truck while exiting from I-75 in Gainesville.

According to Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the single-vehicle accident occurred at 12:25 a.m. Sunday morning. The driver, a 22-year-old, attempted to exit at SW Williston Road at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the truck while negotiating the curve.

“The pick-up truck entered the east grass shoulder and struck a tree with its front section,” FHP reported.

The man was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, according to FHP.

First responders transported the driver to UF Health Shands Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
