Old Town woman dies in head-on collision

A 73-year-old Old Town woman died Monday afternoon in a head-on collision on NE 389th Avenue north of Old Town.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, the woman driving a Kia Soul SUV westbound on NE 389th Avenue around 5:28 p.m. attempted to pass a vehicle in a no-passing zone. The Kia driver traveled into the oncoming lane and struck a Ford van head-on that was traveling eastbound on NE 389th Avenue.

The driver of the van—a 60-year-old male from Old Town– attempted to brake and swerve to avoid the oncoming Kia, but was unsuccessful and the two vehicles collided, according to the report.

The Kia driver died at the scene and the van’s driver and his passenger—a 61-year-old Old Town female—suffered minor injuries.
