Orange Heights accident injures 1

A pickup collided with a tree off US 301 near Orange Heights seriously injuring the driver early Thursday morning.

According to an Alachua County Fire Rescue (ACFR) release, emergency responders were dispatched to a single-vehicle collision with a tree just south of Orange Heights on the southbound side of US 301 at 1:45 a.m.

Units found an extended cab pickup truck that had struck a tree on the driver’s side of the vehicle. The lone occupant driver was extricated using the Jaws of Life and transported to UF Shands Main ED via ShandsCair helicopter. The patient is in serious condition.

ACFR was joined by the Melrose Fire Department, Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, Florida Highway Patrol and the ShandsCair helicopter.

FHP is investigating the cause of the accident.
