As COVID-19 vaccines become increasingly available, the City of Newberry and the Alachua County Health Department have announced an appointment-only vaccine clinic in Newberry on Tuesday, March 9.
The Easton Newberry Sports Complex (24880 NW 16th Avenue) will serve as the vaccination site from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The health department is offering the COVID-19 vaccine to Florida residents age of 65 and above. Department staff began taking appointments Wednesday morning at 352-472-5663 ext 148.
Officials advised residents to try again if the phone line is busy. For those with questions about the vaccine, call 352-334-7900 or visit the city’s website.
The Newberry clinic comes days after Johnson & Johnson received the Food and Drug Administration’s third emergency use authorization for a COVID-19 vaccine. On Monday Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said the state expects to receive 175,000 doses of the new vaccine this week.
On Tuesday, citing efforts to boost production, President Joe Biden said he expects vaccine supply to increase enough to cover every American adult by the end of May.Â
