Pickup hits, kills Alachua boy crossing road

A 5-year-old Alachua boy died when he was hit by a pickup while attempting to cross Hipp Way on Friday morning.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, a 30-year-old Alachua man was driving a 2018 Ford F150 pickup north on Hipp Way at 7:14 a.m. The boy was walking westward on the sidewalk that leads to the crosswalk and attempted to cross Hipp Way north on NW 133^rd Terrace at the same time the pickup approached the crosswalk.

Emergency responders transported the boy to UF Shands Hospital where he died.
