Poe to deliver State of the City address tonight

Gainesville Mayor Lauren Poe will deliver his annual State of the City address Wednesday night.

Poe took office in 2016 and is serving his second term as mayor, but this is the first State of the City address he will deliver virtually. The city will post his address at 4 p.m. on the city’s website and Facebook page. It will also air on Cox Cable Channel 12.

“The State of the City address is an opportunity to celebrate our resilience as a community, as well as recognize how much we have achieved during a year of challenges unlike any other,” Poe said in a public statement.

According to a city press release, Poe’s annual speech will cover the city’s progress toward strategic goals. It will also feature Gainesville city commissioners, community leaders and some local residents.

“So much good work has been accomplished this year despite tremendous challenges,” Gainesville City Manager Lee Feldman said. “We are excited to visually tell our story and to highlight progress in action.”

The city said some commissioners plan to host watch virtual parties on their Facebook pages.
