Positivity rates of COVID-19 in Florida drop below 5%

The Florida Department of Health reported 4,311 new cases to the Florida COVID-19 Dashboard, bringing the total positive test count to 597,597 cases as of the August 21st report. 

The FDOH also reported 34,667 new tests from Friday. The positivity rate was 4.89% of the total of tests that had not tested before, according to the report. 

10,411 people have died from the virus in Florida, an increase of 106.

When the FDOH reports a death in the daily update, the number encompasses several days, with actual days of death occurring weeks prior in some cases.

679 new hospitalizations were reported Friday, bringing the total to 36,329 people in Florida that have been hospitalized at some point during the coronavirus pandemic.

Across Florida, 4,775 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 as their primary diagnosis as of 11 am.
