A search and rescue team is currently trying to locate a diver reported missing on Thursday in Gilchrist County.
Rumors of a missing diver at a spring in Gilchrist County started two days ago on several Facebook groups.
According to a report issued Friday by Gilchrist County Sheriff Lt. K. Weatherford, “On Thursday, Jan. 21, at approximately 1130 hours [11:30 a.m.], the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a missing underwater diver in the [northeast] quadrant of Gilchrist County. Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office, in cooperation with International Underwater Cave Rescue and Recovery, is attempting to locate the missing diver.”
Weatherford makes this request of people visiting springs in the area, “If anyone should come in contact with personnel associated with this search, please stay clear of the area.”
No further information is being released at this time until more details can be confirmed by law enforcement, the report states.
“There is no danger associated with this missing person to the general public. Further information will be released as it pertains to this investigation when it is available and is appropriate.”
