Residential fire burns 100-year house

GFR 320 NW 1st Street house fire

Gainesville Fire Rescue (GFR) crews extinguished a residential fire and successfully saved a dog inside on Wednesday evening.

According to a GFR release, firefighters were dispatched to a blaze at 320 NW 1st St. around 9:56 p.m. and arrived to find a two-story home with heavy fire on the second floor.

All occupants safely exited the house while the GFR Tower 1 crew rescued a dog inside the structure. Emergency responders resuscitated the dog, who was taken to a local animal hospital.

Firefighters extinguished the fire and are investigating the origin and cause.

According to the Alachua County Property Appraiser website, the house was built in 1920.
