Multiple fire units responded Wednesday morning to a semi-tractor pulling a car-hauling trailer that caught fire on Interstate 75 south of Alachua.
According to an Alachua County Fire Rescue (ACFR) release, firefighters from ACFR and the High Springs Fire Department responded at 10:45 a.m. to a commercial vehicle fire at the 398 mile marker southbound on I-75.
When units arrived, they discovered heavy fire in the trailer section that included multiple vehicles being carried. The truck’s driver had separated the tractor from the trailer to limit the damage.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze, but the trailer and three of the vehicles sustained heavy damage and one vehicle had minor damage.
No injuries were reported and crews had two lanes shut down for nearly one hour to extinguish the fire and clean the debris.
Two water tankers, two fire engines and one district chief responded to the scene.
