According to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ASO), deputies responded to a report of an “armed disturbance” at 2325 SE 46 Terrace. ASO spokesman Sgt. Frank Kinsey told reporters the suspect fired at officers, who returned fire and shot the suspect fatally.

“At this point we’re working to establish a timeline of what led up to this,” Kinsey said.

State attorney Brian Kramer is on the scene and investigating the incident.

“The shooting part of the investigation is going to be turned over to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement,” Kinsey said. “For the integrity of the investigation, we’re not releasing any of the names of the involved shooters or the suspect that was killed.”

Kinsey said the officer who fired the fatal shot is on leave, per typical protocol, while the investigation takes place.

Kinsey said the scene has been secured and poses not threat to the public and that Sheriff Clovis Watson would hold a full press conference with more details on Monday pending further investigation by the ASO and the FDLE.
