Shots fired near Lake Butler Elementary School on Wednesday morning led to a “shelter in place” action.
According to a Union County Sheriff’s Office (UCSO) release, deputies responded soon after shots were fired near the school around 9:30 a.m. and set up a perimeter while interviewing neighbors. It was determined that a nearby property owner off State Road 121 fired two shots just west of the school to scare off birds that were attempting to eat his crops. The property owner was contacted and warned of his actions.
The school resumed normal operations before noon with an increased law enforcement presence in the area.
