Gainesville, Fla. – The City of Gainesville invites all neighbors to celebrate the arrival of 2021 during “Sing in the New Year,” two days of family friendly festivities at Depot Park, Jan. 1 and 2. Due to the pandemic, this year’s event replaces traditional end-of-the-year fireworks.
Activities begin Friday, Jan. 1 at noon with a children’s singalong (featuring an LED screen with “follow the bouncing ball” lyrics), live DJ and snow machines on the hill near the playground area. An adult karaoke stage on the open lawn at the west side of the park also features a live DJ; both karaoke stages close at 5 p.m. Friday.
Friday and Saturday, chalk art and sanitizing stations will be set up at noon along the edge of the pond for park guests to decorate the promenade in chalk. Food trucks and sweet treat vendors are scheduled on-site into the evenings. Saturday is the final day to view the park’s festive holiday lights.
Social circles are painted on the hill and open lawn to encourage social distancing for the safety of all neighbors. For additional information, contact Cindi Harvey at 352-393-8533 or HarveyCK@cityofgainesville.org.
