A single-car accident along State Road 26 west of Melrose led to a Newberry teenager’s death early-morning Wednesday.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported a 19-year-old man was traveling westbound on State Road 26 just east of Country Road 219A near Santa Fe Lake Park at a high speed at 3 a.m. when his sedan drove off the roadway onto the south grass shoulder, overturned and struck a tree.
Emergency responders declared the man dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
