St. Augustine man, 50, dies after being struck by car on Waldo Road

A 50-year-old St. Augustine man was hit and killed on Waldo Road (State Road 24) when he attempted to cross the roadway in front of an oncoming vehicle on Wednesday morning.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) release, the man was at the intersection of NE 57^th Street and Waldo Road (SR 24) northeast of Gainesville when he attempted to cross the road directly in front of a sedan, being driven by a 34-year-old Gainesville woman, at 4 a.m.

The roadway was not lit, and the pedestrian was not wearing reflective or high-visibility clothing, according to the release.
