St. Francis Catholic hosts Florida Get Down Holiday Basketball Shootout

Today through Sunday, St. Francis Catholic Academy in Gainesville will be hosting the Florida Get Down Holiday Basketball Showcase. The 3-day boys high school basketball event is organized by former Gator basketball player Dan Cross. A total of 22 teams will be participating in this year’s event, up from eight in last year’s showcase.

There are six games scheduled for today. The host Wolves open up tournament play today at noon against Strawberry Crest. That will be followed by P.K. Yonge and Tampa Catholic at 1:30 p.m. This afternoon at 4:30 p.m., Santa Fe takes on Providence (Jacksonville), and tonight at 7:30 p.m., Eastside (Gainesville) will play Calvary Christian.

It’s a full day of basketball on Saturday with a total of 11 games scheduled for the day. It gets underway tomorrow beginning at 8:30 a.m. as Strawberry Crest plays Tampa Catholic, which was in the Class 4A state championship game last year. A pair of area teams will go head-to-head at 10 a.m. as St. Francis Catholic hosts P.K. Yonge.

The tournament will draw some of the top talent in the state like Emmanuel Sharp of Bishop McLaughlin, the #11 player from the Class of 2022 and his teammate Dillon Mitchell, the #22 player for 2022 according to 247Sports, Mike Trigg of Carrollwood Day, who will play football and basketball at USC, Karter Knox of Tampa Catholic, Dallan “Deebo” Coleman of West Nassau (Callahan), a Georgia Tech signee, Santa Fe’s Ernest Ross, a North Carolina State signee, and more.
