Stark to receive $26 million for water projects

U.S. Rep. Kat Cammack announced on Wednesday that the city of Starke would receive $26.5 million in federal funding for water and wastewater infrastructure.

The city of Stark will receive $26.5 million in federal funding to assist with water and wastewater infrastructure and to bring the city into compliance with regulations.  

The funds, announced through U.S. Rep. Kat Cammack’s office, will come from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and include a $6.3 million grant, a $10.6 million Water and Waste Disposal Loan and a $9.6 million Water and Waste Disposal Grant.  

“The proposed investments will bring the city into compliance with regulatory agencies and will assure public health and welfare for its existing and future residents in the City’s designated service area,” the press release said.

Stark has a population of about 6000 people. They’re getting grants of $15.9 Million. That amounts to $2650 per person. Grants are money that doesn’t get paid back.

While these projects are worthwhile, certainly, where is all this money coming from that the USDA is spreading around?

Taxpayers from around the country.

When this all comes due, there’s going to be some rough accounting done.
