The wildfire off State Road 26 in eastern Alachua County grew to 400 acres and is 30% contained as of Thursday morning.

According to a Florida State Service release sent at 8:20 a.m., crews will conduct a mapping today to check the status of the blaze.

The fire started on Wednesday afternoon in the Balu Forest on the north side of SR 26 east of Gainesville. Traffic was initially closed along SR 26 from County Road 234 in Windsor to US Highway 301 in Orange Heights, but the Florida Highway Patrol reopened SR 26 on Thursday morning.

Multiple units are battling the blaze, including crews from the Florida Forest Service, Alachua County Fire Rescue and Windsor Fire Department. Air tankers have made six retardant drops and helicopters have dumped 22 bucket loads totaling 22,000 gallons of water.
