Gainesville Fire Rescue (GFR) firefighters extinguished a second-floor kitchen blaze and rescued a cat at the Summit House Apartments early Friday morning.

According to a GFR release, crews arrived at 12:01 a.m. at 1700 SW 16th Ct. in Gainesville at 12:01 a.m. and found a fire in a second-floor kitchen. The fire was promptly contained and extinguished.

All occupants were evacuated, and a cat was rescued from the apartment building.
